Roulette Rules

Roulette

The object of Roulette is to guess where the ball will land when the wheel is spun. If you place your bets on the correct space on the Roulette table before the wheel is spun, and the ball lands in that space, you win according to the pay table.

There are 2 types of Roulette European or French Roulette and American Roulette. Here we will teach you French Roulette, which you can play at Vegas Palms Casino.

There are 37 numbers on the French Roulette wheel - 18 are Red and 18 are Black. The odds of the ball landing on any number is 36:1. The extra number (the zero) gives the House it's advantage of 2.7%. This means that for every $100 bet, you will lose only $2.70.

French Roulette also sports the "en prison" rule. This gives a Player who loses an even money bet a chance to get his orginal bet back with no winnings. If you lose the en prison bet, then you lose altogether. En prison Roulette games reduce the House Advantage to 1.35%. This is even lower than Craps, which has the best house edges of all casino games at 1.4%.

The La Partage rule is another common French roulette rule that allows you to recoup some of your losses. How? If you make an even money bet, and the ball lands on zero, you lose only half your bet. As you can see, this rule provides a significant advantage to the Player. This rule is extremely beneficial if you're the kind of Player that makes even-money Roulette bets. Use this rule to move the odds in your favour.

There are several other bets that can be made in the game of Roulette. You can bet on:

  • Red or Black - The French term for Red is rouge and for Black is noir. A Red or Black bet pays even money or 1:1 and means that you are betting that the ball will land on either a Red space or Black space on the Roulette wheel.
  • Odd or Even - Another even money bet, which means that you are betting that the ball will land on either an Odd or an Even number on the Roulette wheel. The French name for Odd is impair and for Even is pair.
  • High or Low - This is a bet that the ball will land on the numbers 1 - 18 in the case of a Low bet and 19 - 36 in the case of a High bet. The French name for a low bet is manque and it is sometimes called a First 18 bet. The French term for a high bet is passe and it is also sometimes referred to as a Last 18 bet. The payoff on these bets is 1:1.
  • Dozens - Dozens bets are bets on sets of 12 numbers at one time. For example, you can bet on 1-12 (Premier Douzaine), 13-24 (Mayenee Douzaine), and 25-36 (Dernier Douzaine). These bets pay 2:1.

All the above-mentioned bets are often called Outside Bets, because of their location on the Roulette Table. There are other types of bets you can make in Roulette and each have their own set of rules. Click on the articles below to learn more about a specific bet:
